Most people don't want a garden service. They want someone who turns up, knows what's planted where, and does the right job for the season without being told.

That's the difference between maintenance and a clean-up. A clean-up fixes what's gone wrong. Maintenance means it doesn't go wrong — beds stay weeded rather than needing rescuing, shrubs get shaped before they're a problem, and mulch goes on before the summer instead of after it.

I work across the Mountains from Glenbrook to Blackheath, and the seasons run differently over that distance. A Winmalee garden is three or four weeks ahead of a Blackheath one in spring.

Garden maintenance FAQs

  • A clean-up is a one-off reset for a garden that's got away from you. Maintenance is the regular visit that stops it getting there again. Most people who've had a big clean-up go onto maintenance afterwards, because it's cheaper over a year than rescuing it twice.

  • No, as long as there's safe access. I'll send photos and an invoice afterwards.

  • Yes — most maintenance clients have mowing on the same visit. It's more efficient and it works out better than booking two people.

  • In most Mountains gardens, yes. If there's something I'm not certain about I'll leave it and ask rather than cut it — which is the right way round.

  • Yes, included on every visit. Nothing gets left in a pile by the side gate.
